Bio:
Hullo, fellow writers! I have to admit, writing about myself has always been a bit of a challenge for me, so I'm going to start this the sort of same way I started my intro post when I joined way back in July of 2008: My name is Cris. I am a girl. I live in Texas. I love My Chemical Romance, the Dear Hunter, Morrissey, Murder by Death and the Dresden Dolls like a nerdy kid loves comic books. Coincidentally, I am a nerdy kid who loves comic books.

Currently, I'm working through my final year of undergrad study in English and Art. After taking some time off to seriously work on a novel, I hope to get into the Art Therapy graduate program at the Manhattan School of Visual Arts. I also love the Norwegian band Kaizers Orchestra, even though I don't speak one word of Norwegian--yet!

I'm not exactly sure what it is that made me gravitate towards writing stories, but I've been keeping a notebook since about sixth or seventh grade. I've always been a big reader, have always had an overactive imagination, so maybe that's what started it. I started, funnily enough, with writing fan fiction pieces. (Thankfully, most of those old fan fiction pieces no longer exist due to the phasing out of 3.5" floppy disks.) In high school I made the transition into writing more original stories, but I didn't really get going until I got to college. I'm also very much a participant of National Novel Writing Month. My screen name there is SaturnAngel, if anyone wants to add me to their buddy list on the site. This year, I'll be doing a sci-fi sort of stoy. We'll see how well I do!

I'm willing to suppose that I'm best known on the internets for writing "The White Parade". It was a story inspired by several things: My Chemical Romance's album The Black Parade, an art piece, and the not-so-great personal circumstances I was undergoing through at the time of writing it. The story continues to rank highly on my list of personal favorites, and I hope one day to present a copy of it to the group of men who helped inspired it.

Most of the things that I write end up posted on one of two places. The first is my own website called Blissful Madness, where I put up my writing along with photography and LiveJournal icons. The second is another website called Under the Van Gogh, a series I'm working on with fellow Flame writer apocalypse_me. Describing what the series is like would require a showcase all its own, but our characters (such as Robert and Wyatt from the Instep prompt) have shown up in several stories written around BF prompts.

When I'm not writing, I'm usually doing some sort of crafting; beading and cross-stitching are some of my favorite things to do with my hands. I also own a candle-maker, and I really want both a rock tumbler and rock drill for Christmas so that I can make my own beads out of found rocks.

The Chosen Piece:
When the prompt for "Flight" came up, I pretty much knew right away I wanted to write about Marcello Conradas.

Marcello Conradas is one of the more recently-conceived characters from Under the Van Gogh, and he's really just a lot of fun to work with. His general look is inspired by Janove Ottesen of the band Kaizers Orchestra while his life story and behavior were inspired by the band's music. Within the series, Conradas runs the Kjellar, a very popular speakeasy-styled little nightclub in the city of Dis on the Dead's side of the Mortal Coil. It has become tradition at the Kjellar that on Friday nights, Conradas tells a story which is then followed by a game of Russian Roulette--and if there's one thing Marcello Conradas knows how to do well, it's tell an engaging story.

If there's another thing he knows how to do well, it's rig a roulette game, but that's for another time entirely.
