Bio:
My name is Clarissa (aka The Quantum Cat, aka cfictionkat). I'm 24 years old, hailing from St. Louis, Missouri. I've been a member of Brigit's Flame since June of 2008. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to participate half as much as I'd like. This is only partly because I went back to school full-time two months later. It's also partly because one of my greatest challenges is in creating a short, self-contained body of work. I'm the kind of writer who sits down with a vague idea and then throws down the pen a few thousand words later, leaving an unfinished opus.

I've been a book nerd for as long as I can remember, but I didn't really get into writing until I was 15 or 16. That's when I became a member of the 'infamous' Harry Potter fandom, and subsequently hooked on writing fanfiction. Little known fact: I was a hardcore Harry/Draco shipper, with a little Hermione/Snape on the side.

I've put those days long behind me. These days prefer to undertake more extensive exercises in futility in lieu of fanfiction. I have several bodies of work in progress, among them a project I like to call "the Novel." The Novel currently has four unfinished drafts and about 1G of freewriting I've thrown together for the fifth. I'm not ashamed of this. In fact, it's kind of what keeps me writing consistently because as long as I'm tearing the Novel apart and rewriting it from scratch, I'm writing on a regular basis and that's what counts.

I'm hoping to participate in the November contest, although I'll be entering Just for Fun. I have a new idea I'm tossing around and the Flame gives me a perfect excuse to start writing it down. A couple of years ago I worked in a coffee shop. I loved the place, I loved the people, and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Unfortunately, my employment there ended with drama and hard feelings. However, it also left me with a lot of unforgettable experiences that could be easily self-contained if I made a concerted effort.

The Chosen Piece:
The piece I've chosen to highlight is a rumination I had one night about a friend from said coffee shop. I'm going a little bit against the grain here because this piece wasn't inspired by a prompt in this community. I was inspired when the song "Mambo Sun" from the T Rex album Electric Warrior started playing on KDHX (St. Louis Community Radio). Kal and I used to blast Electric Warrior just about every Friday or Saturday night during clean-up. I think this piece really highlights his character and our relationship. He was my greatest ally during the downward that was the end of Coffee Shop 1.0 and remains one of my closest friends to this day.
