This week, it is my pleasure to introduce you to amused4ever, another of our newest members!

Bio:
I'm a second-year college student seeking a biology major and a Spanish minor--yes, you heard right. I plan to go to med school because I'd like to become an ER doctor. And speaking another language other than your own is just fun. :) Anyway, although I've decided to try to become a doctor, that doesn't mean I don't like writing! It's one of my greatest passions; I've been writing for as long as I remember. I still have some of my first "stories" that I wrote for both school and for fun. In the seventh grade I planned out a whole novel that I actually started writing...I only got about three chapters into it, though, since I kind of outgrew the story. -_-; About six years ago, I really got into fan-fiction--and surprisingly enough, I think that's where I grew the most as an author. I wrote a complete twenty-some chapter piece featuring the Teen Titans when I was about fourteen until I was eighteen, and I learned SO much from that experience. I only write the occasional drabble or one shot in fan-fiction nowadays, but trekking through that long story has let me know I do have the ability to achieve my life-long dream of writing an actual novel--I just have to stick to it. Ever since joining Brigit's Flame, I've been writing more original fiction, albeit short fiction, than ever before. And I'm grateful for that! It seems this is another step in my journey to become an author capable of writing a somewhat life-changing novel. Because while I love writing just for fun, I also find my writing is better when I pour my voice into it--when I have something to say. I will publish a novel one day, and I don't want it to be forgotten. I've already had a few ideas running around my head for a while, but I don't think I quite have the tools or experience yet that I need to write them. Brigit's Flame is definitely helping me learn what I'll need to achieve my goal, pushing me to exercise my skills and test my limits. So I'll be around for a while! :D If you want to learn more about me or read more, you can always visit my LJ. I love visitors, and all my writing is under some kind of "fiction" tag.

The Chosen Piece:
At first, tackling the prompt of "The dream becomes real," [for the mini-contest] was super-hard; I've had tons of dreams, weird and normal and everything in between. I could've literally written anything! But I didn't want my entry to be just about a dream coming to life--I wanted a little depth to it. After mulling over it for a couple days, I remembered a dream I'd had about two weeks back...a dream about the world ending, almost exactly as described in the piece. I suddenly knew I had my starting point, and built my story and characters around what that dream might represent. 'A Dream Diary' basically recounts the entrapment of the narrator in their own mind. That's really all there is to it. The reader discovers exactly what happened to the narrator and why they traveled to their dream world at the end of the piece, but during the story the reader must accompany the narrator on their journey. For that's what came to my mind somewhere in the middle of writing 'A Dream Diary'--a journey both in the literal and symbolic sense, that all humans seem to take at some point in their lives. When we experience a personal trauma, from midlife crisis to losing a loved one, we tend to retreat and become stagnant, or reinvent and adapt to this change, or one after the other! 'A Dream Diary' is about this, about making the difficult transition from the former to the latter. Or at least, that's what I was aiming for. It's by no means a polished or finished piece--I wrote it in about four hours, and finished it for the mini-contest. I'd definitely like to go back and rework it one day, because I really loved some of the themes I was trying to touch on; I just think they ran away from me in the short time span I gave myself to write this
